Furoshiki Project – Personal Textile Creation
As part of our school program, we were tasked with creating a furoshiki, a textile gift wrap that is more ecological than traditional paper, rooted in a Japanese technique.
Each student had to create a furoshiki for a character of their choice. I chose to represent my father, a hunter, through this project, more broadly embodying the world of hunters.
We were also asked to build a concept around our creation. My goal was to create a connection between my father’s passion for hunting and my own, centered on sewing and creative work—a field often little understood by him.
Our design had to be inspired by a haiku we had written, as well as a chosen season. For me, it was autumn, a season linked to the hunting world and the transformation of nature.
For the execution of the furoshiki, we explored various textile enhancement techniques, such as dyeing and, above all, embroidery. This project allowed me to showcase my embroidery skills while deepening my technical expertise.
Beyond the creative aspect, this project was highly emotional: it opened a door between my loved ones and me, weaving a dialogue through textile and craftsmanship.
