Apprenticeship at La Petite Manchester – Mentorship and Design Projects

During my apprenticeship at La Petite Manchester, I have two main responsibilities. First, I mentor employees in reintegration programs, guiding them in the creation of textile accessories using fabrics sourced locally in Alsace.

Second, I work in the design office on more complex projects independently. Two examples of these projects are: the installation of large draped textiles on a mechanical structure for the “Le Rendez-vous des Matières” fair organized by Formae in Paris, and the creation of 13 flowing serpentine dresses for a choreographer. These experiences allowed me to develop both leadership skills and advanced technical expertise in textile design and production.

Draped Textile Project

My role in this project involved cutting the various draped textile panels according to the precise measurements indicated on the plans provided by the architects. I also guided the team to suggest the best finishing techniques and attachment solutions for the metal structure. Once the panels were prepared, we traveled to Paris to install the different draped textiles on the structure, ensuring a precise and aesthetically pleasing result.

Serpentine dress

For this project, I designed and created serpentine dresses composed of 12 half-circle panels assembled together using a 504 sewing machine. The construction required precise cutting, alignment, and stitching to ensure the flowing, dynamic movement of the dresses, while maintaining their structural integrity.
